Reminder to Submit Accurate Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) Codes

CMS would like to remind all Encounter Data submitters of the requirement to submit accurate DRG codes. Recently, CMS has noticed the practice of submitting two-character DRG codes becoming more prevalent. Two-character DRG codes should not be submitted to CMS. All DRG codes should be a minimum of three characters. To avoid creating a new edit to reject these encounters, CMS has chosen to provide this guidance. If a Third-Party Submitter or vendor is utilized to submit data, please ensure all partners are also aware of this information.
